Capacity Building

The European Protection Order (EPO) was introduced by the EC Directive 2011/99 / EU to allow the application of judicial protection orders issued in criminal proceedings in one Member State in all other Member States.
Although protection orders can be applied to anyone in need of protection, these measures are important tools to protect women in cases related to intimate or domestic violence, harassment, stalking or sexual violence.
Only seven EPOs have been issued so far. Compared to the number of victims in the EU and the possibilities to move between Member States, the number of EPOs required is dramatically low.

There is a strong need to increase the knowledge of this instrument and its effectiveness in order to create a real common area of protection.
